Zion Native Flute School Learn From The Best Instructors In The Nation!
Immerse yourself in the tonal beauty, history and culture of the Native American flute by attending technique courses and special sessions presented by some of the most notable instructors and performers in the country. The Flute School will provide enriching experiences for flute players of all levels, from the newest beginner to the seasoned, advanced player.
These
flute blanks feature a solid piece of wood, line
bored to maintain a single piece flute body. Then
your flute blank's basic shape is turned on a
lathe, providing...near perfect symmetry and wall
thickness, important elements of building a high
quality flute.
Awaken Your Inner Musician
By Clint Goss
Clint and Vera will lead activities designed to truly “awaken the inner musician” in everyone. Emphasis will be on tuning in to the “feel” of music, and recalling the kind of natural enthusiasm young children possess for sounds and movement. Participants will experience the rhythms and tones of music from other cultures, and by instinct, will add their own contribution to various styles of music.
Vince will introduce advanced Native American flute playing techniques such as fingering systems for playing chromatic scales, technique for playing in various keys on one flute, and how to transpose music and read chord symbols on a printed music score. Time will also be devoted to solo and ensemble performance skills, improvisation, and tips on how to play spiritually.
Toubat Flute Making Workshop By LeRoy Cully and Russ Wolf
The Toubat flute is a North American Plains flute in the key of F# Major. This diatonic flute was designed by Doctor Richard Payne. Collector, historian, conservator, recording artist, and flute maker, Dr. Payne became involved with the Native American flute in the 1930's. Chief among these qualities was the ability of the flute to achieve the characteristic Southern Plains warble.

A Song of Zion
Memories of flute
makers and players walk
with me on the narrow
sandstone trail up
through the heart of Zion
like a stairway to heaven.
So good to see fleshed faces
and shake warm hands
after so much time knowing
you from typed words
and pixels of soul.
So good, like hard walls
of red rock, here finished
with black lichen, there
with grey and rain
through weeping walls.
Cloud shadows passing
their knowledge on while
the sun still shines.
In gratitude I climb
to Hidden Canyon
for the handhold chains
along the way that kept
me from falling.
Now, with walls on
both sides and the way
carved ahead, like
the bore of a flute
I find my own way over
the boulders. The breath
of a heartfelt song
played for the first time
through an old branch.
